The War on Interest

America is being bled by interest.
Here's the meter running.

Every second, lenders collect on the richest nation on earth, and on you. Watch it happen, then use this site to make sure they collect $0 from your family.

Interest charged to the U.S. government this fiscal year (since Oct 1, 2026)
—
≈ $43,125 every second · $4 billion a day · FY2026 actual: $1.36 trillion gross (Treasury)
American households' interest paid this year
—
≈ $37,861 / second across mortgages, cards and loans (BEA, 2025)
Credit card interest alone this year
—
≈ $5,074 / second (CFPB: $160B+ charged in 2024)
Interest the nation has burned since you arrived on this page
—
government and households combined (≈ $80,987 / second)
National debt: $40.56 trillion (Treasury, 11/5/26)
Interest now costs more than national defense: $1.05 trillion vs $965 billion (FY2026, net)
≈ 1 in 5 federal revenue dollars goes to interest
Net interest at 3.2% of GDP, an all-time record

Why we fight

Interest is the only bill that charges you for being behind. It compounds against the young, the broke and the unlucky, and it compounds for whoever already has the money. The average card now charges over 22%. "No interest if paid in full" traps detonate 30%+ penalties backdated to day one. Your government pays more to bondholders than it pays to defend you. We can't repeal compound interest, but any family, any buyer and any business can refuse to feed it. This site exists so you never pay a cent of interest again: every legitimate 0% deal in America, hunted daily, with the traps flagged in red.

The Ugly Truth, State by State

How deep is your state in it?

Pick your state to see the government debt carried in your name, by your state government and by the cities, counties and districts inside it. This is bonded debt your taxes service with interest, year after year.

State government debt
$1.09T
bonds, notes and loans outstanding
Local government debt
$2.10T
cities, counties and districts
Combined state and local
$3.19T
total owed in your name
Your share, per resident
$9,430
every man, woman and child
Across all 50 states and DC, state governments owe $1.09 trillion and local governments another $2.10 trillion: $3.19 trillion of state and local debt before a single dollar of federal debt is counted. Pick your state to see your slice.
Source: U.S. Census Bureau, Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances, FY2023 (latest complete year), bonded debt outstanding; excludes unfunded pension liabilities, which are additional. Federal debt is on top of all of this: your per-resident share of the national debt is roughly $119,000.

The 21-month catch. Months you used at 0% are never charged back. But the issuer can end the 0% rate once a payment is more than 60 days late (Regulation Z), a payment 30 days late can hit your credit, and whatever is left at the end accrues normal card interest from then on. Divide the balance by the months and set autopay for that amount on day one.
Hate balance-transfer fees? Almost no major bank waives them anymore; credit unions still do. A 5% fee on a $10,000 transfer is $500. A credit union membership is usually cheaper.
Trap watch: Capital One and Discover balance transfers between each other are no longer allowed since the merger. Intro windows are shrinking, not growing: U.S. Bank cut Shield from 24 to 21 cycles and Citi cut Simplicity's transfer window from 21 to 18. Lock a long window while they exist.

Retail and Store Financing

    Know the Enemy

    Avoid the Traps

Every scheme below is legal, widespread, and engineered to turn "0%" into 30%+. Memorize them.

    Deferred interest: the backdated bomb

"No interest if paid in full in 12 months" is not 0% APR. Owe $1 on day 366 and they charge 30%+ interest on the entire original purchase, back to day one. A $3,000 sofa can turn into $900+ of instant interest. Found at Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's, Wayfair's card, Kay, Zales and Jared, CareCredit, and the short Ashley, Samsung and Mattress Firm plans.

    The minimum-payment illusion

Minimum payments on deferred-interest plans are set so you won't pay off in time. Divide the purchase by the number of promo months, round up, autopay that amount, and finish a month early.

    "0% or cash rebate"

On vehicles and equipment, 0% usually forfeits a rebate. Bobcat's $15,000 loader rebate at a bank's ~7% often beats 0% financing. Always price both paths; the dealer won't.

    The two-tier store plan

Same store, same card: Samsung's 18 and 24-month plans are true 0%, its 6 and 12-month plans are deferred interest. Ashley's 72-month bedding plan is clean, its shorter plans are a trap. The short plan is the one they push.

    Fees wearing a 0% costume

Zip builds up to $124 of installment fees into an "interest-free" plan. Kay, Zales and Jared add a 2% promo plan fee to financed purchases. Sezzle charges to reschedule. 0% interest is not $0 cost; read the fee table.

    Medical lobby financing

CareCredit's "no interest" plans backdate 32.99% and are sold at the moment you're most vulnerable, in pain, at the counter. Sunbit and Cherry do the same job with no retroactive interest. Ask.

    The lease dressed as financing

"Apple Upgrade" is a Klarna lease; you never own the phone. T-Mobile's Flex 36 runs 0% to 24% APR by credit tier. "Monthly payments" no longer means interest-free. Ask for the APR in writing.

    Stale deal listicles

Half the "0% APR this month" articles online still list Tesla and dead equipment programs. Deals change monthly, which is why this site is re-hunted every day and every row shows when it was last verified.

    Questions

    FAQ

Is 0% APR really free money?
True 0% APR, with equal monthly payments and no retroactive interest, genuinely is, as long as you make every payment on schedule. The seller or manufacturer pays the lender's cut to win your business. The danger is confusing true 0% with deferred-interest "no interest if paid in full" plans, which backdate 30%+ if you miss by a dollar or a day. That distinction is this site's entire reason for existing.
What credit score do I need for these deals?
The headline card and auto offers generally require good-to-excellent credit (roughly 670+, best terms 740+). Manufacturer auto 0% is usually for well-qualified buyers in the top tiers. Pay-in-4 BNPL uses soft checks and approves far more broadly, as do Sunbit and Cherry.
How do I beat a deferred-interest plan I already signed?
Divide what you financed by the number of promo months, round up, set autopay for that amount, and schedule the final payoff at least one month before the deadline. Never trust the printed minimum payment; it is designed to leave a balance when the promo ends.
Should I take 0% financing or the cash rebate?
Do the math both ways: total cost at 0% versus the price minus the rebate, financed at your bank or credit union rate. Big rebates (like Bobcat's $15,000) usually beat 0%; small rebates usually lose.
    Does BNPL hurt my credit?
Affirm reports most loans to Experian and TransUnion, so on-time history can help. Klarna and Afterpay don't report US pay-in-4, but defaults can reach collections, and Block now sells a Cash App Score built on Afterpay data to lenders. Assume everything will eventually count.
    How fresh is this page?
Deals are re-researched daily across issuer pages, manufacturer programs, retailer fine print and Metro Detroit dealer specials. Every row shows the date it was last verified, and expired deals drop off automatically on their end date. Offers can still change without notice; confirm on the lender's page before signing.
    Is this financial advice?
No. It's research and opinion. Rates, terms and availability change constantly and vary by credit profile and region. Verify every offer with the lender, and talk to a licensed advisor about your situation.
